Can anyone recommend me a good place where you can set up a website for free? Something easy to use by someone who knows next to nothing about creating a website.
I've found that Wordpress (http://www.wordpress.com) is actually pretty good for that. Technically it's a blog, but you can select layouts to make it look like an actual website instead.
Seconding the recommendation for wordpress. I've set up a bunch of websites for different people using it, and it's both intuitive and flexible. And free, with minimal advertising.
I know someone who's using http://www.wix.com/, but I don't know how good or easy it is. I think if you host on their server, there's a narrow ad bar at the bottom of each page.
I saw that others suggested Wordpress, which I personally know quite well. I set it up on my own server, so there's no ads, but I can confirm that I find it quite easy to use (once you figure out the structure -- but there's tutorials for that). Of course it has limitations, but if you want special things like dynamic menus or integrated contact forms etc., there's a huge range of plugins you can install.
And, yes, there are plenty of free themes available as well if you want to make it look shinier. :-)
