First off I have to say, much to my own shock - I am totally a Fili/Tauriel shipper because they are the cutest thing evah! Like, two minutes into them talking and I was totally shipping them! I never ship anyone!
As for the rest, I think I liked this one a little more than the first movie, additions included (more on this later). It's was much more exciting, and pretty much contained my favorite parts of the book - the spiders, escaping in the barrels, Bilbo and Smaug. And Smaug; hats off to the people behind Smaug because his look was brilliant. I tend to be incredibly wary when it comes to movies and dragons since well-made dragon are a dime a dozen in Hollywood (Reign of Fire and Dragonheart were the only dragons who had ever impressed me up until now). And Benedict C as Smaug was just utterly brilliant. And if anyone can find me manips of Smaug dressed in Sherlock's coat or worked into a scene from Sherlock I will love you forever, because I swear Smaug actually looked a bit like Benedict... with a touch of Grumpy Cat (which is not as bad as it sounds, I swear!)
As for the additions, they didn't feel like additions so much as extensions, because something I realized about the books is that there is a ton going on behind the scenes. Stuff wee never got to see because the POV of the book was Bilbo, and I like that we get to see what we only ever heard about in the book. It really makes me look forward to the big battle in the final movie (but also not, because I know certain characters die, I just can't remember who. Probably Fili, because if I recall correctly one of the brothers dies... if not both? I really need to re-read the book). I also like that certain scenes were extended for action purposes, but then I'm an action kind of gal :D

Date: 2013-12-20 03:54 pm (UTC)From:Fili and Kili are my favs in the book, so I ought to be enjoying having the spotlight on the brothers with the morgul wound and elf romance, but I'm not so much. What makes them cool in the book is that they are brave and adventurous and not full of themselves like Thorin, but so far we haven't seen them stand out so much that way.
But having lots of Legolas is nice. ;)
