Woo hoo! My book is now available on Kindle! *Flails*

It can currently be purchased here. However, I signed up for a program to help promote my book in which (for a limited time) I can offer it for a reduced price or for free. I haven't decided on which, yet, but I plan to utilize this either before or during my big promotion gig.

(In which case, which do you guys think would be the better way to go? Offer it for free for a limited time, or at reduced price? I'm leaning toward free, myself, and then - if possible - use the half-price thing later on).

I'm just so chuffed to have my book available electronically and at a price that might make it more appealing. At this point, it's not about making money, it's just about getting my book out there and getting people to read it. In fact, I'm much more excited about people reading the book and, hopefully, enjoying it than making a profit (but, yeah, still got to make a profit, even if it isn't a lot).

Congratulations! I suggest going for the reduced price instead of free. I think that in the non-fanfiction world, Free things may not be valued as much as things that you get on sale because why would anyone give anything away for free if it's any good? Also, if you offer it at a reduce price, you can also do further price reductions if sales are not going as well as you want, but if it's already free you won't be able to offer it at a better bargain. By the way, who is the audience for this book? The main protagonist is a kid but is the book for kids or adults or both?

Well, both the reduced price and offering it for free would be for a limited time as a promotional thing - a few days to a week seems to be what's offered. But, yeah, I see what you mean about reduced price and how it would all look in the grand scheme of things.

I categorized the book as young adult. Which, yeah, I know the main protagonist isn't a teenager, but I felt it didn't really fit the middle grade category (at least, I think it didn't. It's really tricky to tell whether a book should be middle grade or young adult. But I've read YA novels with child protagonists, and from what I've read about what defines a book as middle grade, I felt my book didn't entirely fit the definition).

Congratulations! :) (I did buy your book and it's on my pile of books to read, btw! It's just that it's a very LARGE pile ... *g*)

I think I'd go for the free promo! Someone else on my flist did that with a self-published book and it got a lot of downloads, although it's too early yet to see if that will translate into good word of mouth, reviews and so forth.

You might also look into finding some YA book review sites and offering them review copies of the Kindle version, since there won't be any costs associated with mailing it. You might be able to get someone to review it, which would be great publicity!

I also offered a free copy of "Freebird" to our local paper and got their book reviewer to review it, although Freebird is set in our local area so it had local interest; I'm not sure whether it would have worked out so well if it had been SF or fantasy. But still, that might be another thing to think about.

Good idea :D I wonder if that's what I should use the free promotion for *ponders*

Ah! Very excited to read it. One qualm is that I wish it was on my Nook, I don't have a Kindle, but I know Barnes and Noble is far less accommodating to up-and-coming authors than Amazon is! Anyways, look forward to reading it!!
