kriadydragon: (Reaper thinking)
So lately I've been wracking my brain trying to think of ways to help promote my book. Things have (as I knew they would) come to a bit of a standstill that's starting to get on my nerves, and all the things I have planned to help me get a little more noticed are being incredibly slow to happen. For example, one of the things I've been wanting to do is start blogging this novella series I've been working on, but while I have the first part of the novella done I don't want to post it until I at least have the second part done and the third part at least started (there's going to be five parts in all). Problem is, I've been a bit burned out writing-wise and I still have a ways to go before I get my writing motivation back. I'm also starting to wonder if I even want this particular story to be the one I post (but that could just be my burned-out writing motivation talking).

My other plan was to publish another story, but right now I'm only on the third draft, so it's going to be a while before it's published.

One thing I was thinking of doing, however, was posting non-spoilery snippets of my novel - cute or interesting scenes or bits of dialogue to whet people's curiosity. I was thinking of, maybe, doing a kind of wold-life sketchbook of the creatures in the story, but my desire to draw has also been nil (sculpting, on the other hand...) I also still have the figurines I'd made for the bookmarks, but I still haven't thought of anything I could use them for quite yet.

What do you all think? Does posting snippets from the book sound like a good idea? It wouldn't be much. Like I said, just scenes or maybe a paragraph of funny dialogue, and maybe just something once or twice a week for, say, three to five weeks. And maybe during that time I'll get my writing mojo back :/

EXCELLENT
I see that that is no longer done on Amazon books site.
I find that kind of surprising as I would think it would sell more.
When I saw excerpts I mean not just half a page etc. but
a sampling

Have you considered lowering your price to 99 cents? As an avid kindle reader that often gives indie writers/self published a shot, after trying a hundred of them or so I've grown to where if the price tag is over 99 cents I'll rarely bother with them. There's just so many truly terrible ones out there now that it is so easy to self publish on amazon. :( It makes it hard for the good ones to catch on so you need to keep the price ridiculously low or free for that first foray so the bargain hunters will give it a go and once you start getting feedback more people are willing to read. Then you can start raising the prices later kind of deal.

I'll definitely have to look into that to see if it's possible. The first time I set Kindle prices it wouldn't let me go below six something (something to do with making the price compatible with certain foreign prices or something), but recently I was able to lower it to three something, so maybe I'll be able to lower it even more.
