Laptop Woes

I'm ready to strangle my laptop. For the past week my Office Word program keeps freezing up every time I go in to work on a document. I then go to programs and run repairs, only for the repair program to keep going and going until I finally restart my laptop. It then says the program is fixed and I am able to use it. Then the next day when I start my computer back up and open a Word document, the stupid thing freezes.

I've tried everything I can, even uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing works. I really hope my brother can figure this out because about about ready to put my fist through my laptop. A sure way to really tick me off is to keep me from doing what I need to do and progressing. I'm so close to finshing the sixth edits of All The Devils are Here, which I would like to get done today so I can have it beta read. I swear Word doesn't want me finishing this thing :P Well, screw you, Word, I'm finishing it one way or another. I'm tired of not having anything else to publish just yet.

Nooooo. D: Of all the programs not to work, too.

Do you have your OS CDs? If other fixes don't work, doing a clean install of the operating system tends to set a lot of things right. It's a pain getting things set up again, and you have to make sure everything's backed up first, but... better than needing to replace the computer, since Word's not something you can really do without.

I got the install online through a code. I'm not sure why it keeps messing up, although I suspect a current update might be the problem. Everything was working great, then things updated and that's when Word starting mucking up.

My brother's having me download LibreOffice for the time being. Which I've used before and like, it's just a pain making it compatible if I have to email a document to someone who doesn't have Libre.

I think you might still be able to do the reinstall if you have the code, but I wouldn't be able to give you instructions.

Least you've got a decent solution in the meantime, though! Here's hoping that the update gets fixed soon... It really stinks when they manage to break things/make them worse like that. :P

I had a similar problem. Word kept shutting down when I was working on it. Microsoft did an update, from what I was told, and screwed up the program. No fixes anyone told me would work. I tried everything, including uninstalling and doing a clean install. IT DID NOT WORK.

I literally bought a new laptop. My other one was getting old. It still works, but word won't work on it.

The craziest bullshit to ever come out of microsoft.

Yikes! :S My brother had me download LibreOffice so I'll probably use that instead if Word can't get its crap together.

I think Microsoft did try to fix it. There was an update a few days back and Word was working for a time - about a day - only to go capoot on me today. This is why I hate updates. I never trust them.
