[personal profile] sholio wanted to know what I consdiered to be my first fandom, and if I'm still fannish about it.

That's a bit of a toss-up between CSI: New York, Andromeda Ascendant and Earth: Final Conflic.

My first fanfiction was CSI:NY, though I never extended my dive into the fandom from there (communities, forums, etc.) I've written quite a few fics for CSI:NY, but have since drifted away from writing anymore. I still adore the show to pieces - it and SGA are my addiction shows - and it's not that I lost the motivation to write CSI stuff. I just haven't been able to come up with any ideas I like. I am, after all, a fantasy/sci-fi writer, and there's only so many concepts I can use for a crime-drama before I start repeating ideas, which is kind of what ended up happening. SGA, being sci-fi as well as a show where AU can - most of the time - be considered canon, ideas are pretty much limitless, and the only stumbling block is motivation.

The Andromeda fandom I wasn't heavily into like I am with SGA. Of course, back then, I didn't know the term "fandom" existed. I did hang out at Andromeda's main page a lot, as well as hunted for spoilers and - when I got into fanfic - stories. But I only ever wrote two stories for it, both unfinished (with no idea if I'll ever finish them). I'd gotten into writing for the Andromeda fandom during the shows last season, and when it went off the air, I sort of lost my motivation to write for it *winces*.

Earth: Final Conflict, though I never wrote any stories for it, I was quite obsessed with it. I was always snooping for spoilers. However, fandom-wise my fandom-involvement still couldn't compare to my involvement in SGA. Again, it all took place before I even knew what fandom was.

Both EFC and Andromeda are shows I still love and would watch over and over again if I could, but can't find them on DVD! (I may have to break down and buy them off Amazon. Oi.)

Thanks for the answer! I'm always curious about the other fandoms that people have been through, especially since it's not unknown for me to encounter someone in one fandom and then in another years later, even under a different user name. (It's always kind of a cool feeling to go "Hey, you're the person who wrote [....] back in fandom [x]!")

It's also interesting to me how a person's experiences in different fandoms can be so very different. For example, there have been some fandoms where I never wrote fic (e.g. Stargate SG-1 -- at least during the time in the late '90s when I was massively into it), and some where I've written fic but haven't gotten involved with the social side of the fandom at all (Dragonball Z is a good example of that) and some where I've gotten involved with the social side of things, or just looking up fan sites and spoilers, but haven't really read fic much at all.

It does make me wonder what, about a show/fandom, motivates the desire to write fic. I'd actually tried thinking up fic for Earth: Final Conflict, but I never could. And the one idea I liked and was considering writing, the show not only went and did something similar, but their idea was better than mine!

I think with EFC, the show had such satisfying stories and whump that there was no fodder for fic (at least for me.) Supernatural is another show that I just can't write fic for, though I am trying (I promised my sister a story a while back.) Although, I think with Supernatural, it's more getting into the characters. I love Dean to pieces as he's such a cute goof, but his character-type isn't exactly my favorite, and that makes me hesitent about writing him.
