Someone who's willing to recieve stories of mine via e-mail from out of the blue and who can, if possible, clean a story up as soon as possible - and by as soon as possible I don't necessarily mean it has to get back to me the very same day. Though I'd prefer it, some stories may take longer to beta than others. I have a story at this very moment in need of a bit of beta'ing. Just a one-shot.
And, of course, being someone who likes returning the favor, I can be a permanent beta in return for whoever volunteers. You don't even need to ask, just send the story right over. The only story-types I won't read are slash, het, where something sexual is involved and Rodney-centric whump-fics. Nothing against McKay or McKay whump - I do like the guy and I do whump him a little from time to time (but Sheppard always gets the brunt). It's just, for various reason that I'll leave for another post (maybe, no promises unless you really want to know), I have the lowest tolerance for McKay-centric whump.

Of course, that's only one out of many reason why I dislike McKay-whump. And I'm quite positive it's the same for McKay-fans when it comes to Shep-whump stories.

Date: 2008-04-28 08:57 pm (UTC)From:Also, and this is a little more complicated, I feel - personally - that McKay hurt and Sheppard angsting over it is kind of a given. What I mean by that is that Sheppard protects McKay, so when McKay gets hurt, of course Sheppard is going to worry. It's who Sheppard is. But when Sheppard gets hurt, I find the more socially inept McKay's response more interesting. We'd been made to believe, when McKay first appeared on SG-1, that he wasn't a people person and didn't care for anyone. Now, of course, we know that isn't true and have been shown his caring side in bits and pieces throughout Atlantis episodes. McKay is the kind of character who will go through the most character change, and I like being able to show that change in my stories, as well as read it.
However, I personally feel you don't really get that when McKay's the one being whumped. Maybe if he isn't the only one being whumped (or whumped because he saved Sheppard), but it's more obvious when it's Sheppard whumped and McKay made to worry. When McKay is whumped, in many stories I've come across, he tends to be kind of... snotty about it, I guess you could say. So if he went through any kind of a learning curve, you don't really see it. Plus, of course, McKay's rather smug on a daily bases. The man doesn't need more reasons to be smug about anything.
Heh, that's a good idea - start a community for the kind of fic you like. You should open it up for people to make recomendations. Just make sure to emphasize what the comminuty is about - what is accepted and what isn't - or people with recommend anything.
