Fanfiction.Net is starting to rake my nerves, mostly because of all the technical difficulties it keeps coming across. Just when a new chapter of a fic pops in I'm forced to wait another twenty minutes for the chapter itself to show up, and that's just one of many hiccups. Don't get me wrong, I do like FF.Net in that you can post stories of any length without having to divide up a long one shot into chapters just to make in fit. Plus there are still good writers on the sight. But since first discovering FF.net many years ago, my fandoms have been whittled down to SGA stuff only. The CSI:NY fandom is full of poorly written ships, and everything else I just got bored with (though I still drop into the Numbers fandom from time to time.)

I'm sure everyone's heard the talk about FF.net being full of crap. It's more like a mix, really, of poor quality and high quality stuff, with the poor quality being more dominant. That doesn't always bother me so long as there's a few good fics to be read, but somedays all you get is the crap, as though all the good authors have vanished. There are some authors with promise but in dire need of a beta. And some people would have excellent stories if they didn't go on and on with lengthy, sometimes repetative introspections. Knowing what a character is thinking is good, making the entire chapter about what that character is thinking, with nothing happening in between, is not so good. Unless that's what the story is about.

Anyways, I'm going somewhere with this, I promise. I still read and post on FF.net and will continue to do so, but I know many are giving up on the site. I'm a feedback whore, I will admit to that, and like to know what people think of my stories. I'd post my fanfic here but my LJ site is for my original fic, the occasional one-shot, and the occasional complaint. So I'm opening up a Blog where I'll be putting all my Fanfiction, old and new, SGA and CSI:NY, like an archive, and put up a link here so it can be reached. The Blog'll be entirely devoted to fanfic, and I may even post fics there that won't be found anywhere else (except maybe the Sheppard H/C community, especially challenges.)

So now you know this entry wasn't just another venting spiel.

I've also been pondering, off and on, starting a CSI:NY Gen fic only community, though I haven't decided on anything. If I did, are there any CSI:NY fans who would like to be mods in this should I start one? Stories could be posted, as well as recommended, but focus entirely on gen fics. It's just something I'm toying with, keep in mind. I haven't actually decided yet. I know I'm not the only one tired of all the ships (even if certain ones are becoming canon.)

I just started reading and watching CSI:NY and would very much like to see a Gen dedicated site. So, if you do create such a place, I'll happily follow to see what you have.

On another note, I do have a Gen Atlantis site if you are interested in posting there called The Jumperbay. It's only a year old, but continues to grow at a pretty steady pace.

As for FF.net, it is fun to find the occasional gem hidden amongst all the other stories. And to find a new author that has talent... Sweeeeeet!

I actually found Jumperbay a while ago and have a link to it. I keep wanting to post but get sidetracked by other stuff and forget. There's also Wraithbait, but I tend to get annoyed with that site as I've come across a few Gen stories also labeled as pre-slash.

That's why I stick with FF.net. There's still good writers there, and like you said, the stories that can't be found anywhere else. It's also a lot more trusting site as they extend only to the M ratings and keep M-rated stories off the fandom mainpage, so no worries about runninig into anything unsavory content-wise. I just get tired of the techincal difficulties, and the stints where bad writers outnumber the good.

I'd love a CSI:NY gen fic comm, I've been toying with the idea of writing a NY fic but am struggling enough with my SGA fics at the moment.

I know how it is. Plus writing CSI stuff is hard since there's only so much you can do (especially if you're trying to stay canon).

It might be a while before I decide to start the site. Unlike with SGA, I only know of two other CSI:NY writers, one who doesn't post often and another who hasn't posted for a while. And since the fandom as gone totally shipper, I don't know if I would get in a lot of gen stories for the community. But neither does it hurt to try, I suppose.
