'Tis a fine Independance day it is. We went to Borders, did a little shopping. It was both a pleasure and a torment. As the title says - so many books, so little money. I wanted to get the next book in the Temeraire series, plus they have Indiana Jones adventure books that have caught my fancy. They also, finally, had this one book I saw two years back - an illustrated dark fantasy called Plucker - but it was twenty five bucks, as was this other book that caught my interest called The Somnabulent by Johnathan Barnes (it sounded like my cup of tea - odd - although the mention of "deformed hookers" kind of made me wary. Has anyone heard of this books? Read it? And if you have, is it something you'd recommend?). There was so much I wanted to get, but because I'm saving up for SGA season four plus need to ensure I have money to see Hell Boy and The Dark Knight, I was extremely limited in what I could get.
What I ended up getting was a Dr. Who book, just for something diferent. Since I can't watch the show, I'll read the book - and, yes, that actually is a motto of mine :D. I've decided that, should I like this book, to get a book every month. So for those of you who have read the books, are there any in particular you'd recommend? Or you'd recommend for me to stay away from?
And while I'm asking for recs and getting into Dr. Who via reading material (yes, I know it's not the same - it never is - but it's all I've got until I can either find the series on DVD or one day have enough money to get cable and Sci-fi. I'm limited, people! :(.) are there any Dr. who fanfiction stories you could recommend to me? Preferably with whump :D. You can even recommend your own if you've written any. I'd much appreciate it.
And so went my arduous Independance Day book-shopping adventure. Happy firework popping fourth everyone! :)
