kriadydragon: (Shep grrr icon)
Gar! I come home after a very lovely and spritual institute class to some sacriligious butthead's attempt at being funny/cute/insulting via icon. That's what I hate about today's society - all the pushing for being open-minded and respectful towards other's beliefs, lifestyles, what ever only to have everyone playing favorites in the name of "respect." My mom told me about this article she read where this classroom had this calendar that featured important religious dates of every known religion except Christianity (i.e. no Christmas, no Easter, nothing if it was Christian.) *Insert bitter sarcasm* Yeah, way to prevent "possible" insult :P:P:P

*annoyed sigh* People amaze me sometimes and not in a good way.

Oh, I do know what you mean.

Human beings, looked at too closely, are not pretty or likeable...

Neither are they always all that smart :P I mean, we all do dumb things, but the trick is to learn from it and try to become better people, but far too many have too much of a "don't care" attitude to even try.

Hypocracy much?

Frighteningly one-sided isn't it? We must be mindful of others, but they do not have to acknowlege us. Um...yeah, that's fair?!?

It's wierd. Kids are getting in trouble for bringing their Bible to school.

*sigh* I have to say that the other religious groups get just as annoyed at this as we do. Well at least they do in Australia.

In the U.S. it's usually christianity that gets the short end of the stick. Some may argue against this, but I would think a calander with every religious holiday except for the Christian religion would argue for.

I've seen some icons that would make your hair curl... so, understand your post.

There's times some of the things I've run into on LJ - icons included - almost had me closing down my journal with the intent to never return. I've since managed to be a lot more careful, but such is life, continue to run into something unsavory every so often.

I know exactly what you mean. Yeah, in today's world you are supposed to be tolerant of everyone and everything but Christianity.

This reminds me of a day time talk show I happened upon several years ago that was doing a segment on this couple that had invented a religion that revolved around getting groups together and having sex all the time as their worship of God. One woman in the audience had enough guts to point out that was nothing like anything presented as how to worship God in the Bible. In a nice way she told them they were just looking for a reason to get together and have a bunch of sex and it was wrong to claim it was worshipping God. The host and audience tore her to pieces and called her names and acted like SHE was the one that was crazy. Up until then I'd been thinking surely no one could take this guy seriously. Imagine my surprise. Some days I think the WE that trust in God are down to a minority.

Heh, how much you want to bet that group was or will be later accused of rape, child molestation, sex with minors, etc?

The problem with today's society (well, one problem of many) is the attitude that morality is old fashioned (here's a new flash for ya folks - so is sin!). People tend to jump too easily onto what they think are "new ideas" and new ways of thinking/doing/worshipping; not because there's actually any merit to it, but simply because it's new and different.

Exactly. If you practice basic moral principles and expect others to, people act like you're weird. I talked a few minutes just about common courtesy in one of my classes the first day of school because of things that I see every year. They acted like I was nuts to expect them to stop and help someone who dropped their books in the hall instead of trying to step on their stuff as they rushed by laughing.

As for the new and different, add entertaining. How many churches do you see now wanting you to come to their church because they will entertain you better. Honestly, of the people who do go to church, a lot of them do it to be entertained, not to worship. Those would be the people who don't practice the morality and courtesy thing, yet show up to a church on Sunday morning. I had a kid last year who was harassing another kid because he wouldn't go to church with him that night. The kid doing the harassing was one of the worst kids I've had in years (mean, disrespectful, lies, cheats, etc). I couldn't help it. I was passing by when I heard it and gasped, "YOU go to church?" I waited to get in trouble after that, but no mom's called. Sometimes my mouth gets ahead of my brain.

Not to say there aren't Christians out there trying their best to live by the Bible and actually DO God's will. It just seems we get more and more in the minority each year. It's kind of sobering. I look around sometimes and think I need to quit sidestepping, get back on the straight and narrow and stay there because surely he can't be patient with this mess much longer.

Sad, isn't it?

I really do wish that equality and toleration actually applied to everyone...

Most people today are me first and the hell with everyone else. I deal with people like that all the time.
