Gar! I come home after a very lovely and spritual institute class to some sacriligious butthead's attempt at being funny/cute/insulting via icon. That's what I hate about today's society - all the pushing for being open-minded and respectful towards other's beliefs, lifestyles, what ever only to have everyone playing favorites in the name of "respect." My mom told me about this article she read where this classroom had this calendar that featured important religious dates of every known religion except Christianity (i.e. no Christmas, no Easter, nothing if it was Christian.) *Insert bitter sarcasm* Yeah, way to prevent "possible" insult :P:P:P
*annoyed sigh* People amaze me sometimes and not in a good way.

Date: 2008-09-10 10:56 pm (UTC)From:This reminds me of a day time talk show I happened upon several years ago that was doing a segment on this couple that had invented a religion that revolved around getting groups together and having sex all the time as their worship of God. One woman in the audience had enough guts to point out that was nothing like anything presented as how to worship God in the Bible. In a nice way she told them they were just looking for a reason to get together and have a bunch of sex and it was wrong to claim it was worshipping God. The host and audience tore her to pieces and called her names and acted like SHE was the one that was crazy. Up until then I'd been thinking surely no one could take this guy seriously. Imagine my surprise. Some days I think the WE that trust in God are down to a minority.

Date: 2008-09-11 06:16 am (UTC)From:The problem with today's society (well, one problem of many) is the attitude that morality is old fashioned (here's a new flash for ya folks - so is sin!). People tend to jump too easily onto what they think are "new ideas" and new ways of thinking/doing/worshipping; not because there's actually any merit to it, but simply because it's new and different.

Date: 2008-09-11 11:11 am (UTC)From:As for the new and different, add entertaining. How many churches do you see now wanting you to come to their church because they will entertain you better. Honestly, of the people who do go to church, a lot of them do it to be entertained, not to worship. Those would be the people who don't practice the morality and courtesy thing, yet show up to a church on Sunday morning. I had a kid last year who was harassing another kid because he wouldn't go to church with him that night. The kid doing the harassing was one of the worst kids I've had in years (mean, disrespectful, lies, cheats, etc). I couldn't help it. I was passing by when I heard it and gasped, "YOU go to church?" I waited to get in trouble after that, but no mom's called. Sometimes my mouth gets ahead of my brain.
Not to say there aren't Christians out there trying their best to live by the Bible and actually DO God's will. It just seems we get more and more in the minority each year. It's kind of sobering. I look around sometimes and think I need to quit sidestepping, get back on the straight and narrow and stay there because surely he can't be patient with this mess much longer.
