I think it's time I took a break from fanfic and try to focus on other things. Lately - maybe because of the mood I've been in or maybe it's just time for a change - but fandom and fanfic has been making me incredibly unhappy. Not for any one reason in particular, it just has. Too many major things getting to me, too many minor things, too many things that shouldn't be getting me down but are. And it's getting so that I cringe every time I think about writing a story, and the stories I do write I'm utterly unhappy with to the point I almost despise them.

I miss how it was - the excitement of writing, of posting, of knowing that people enjoyed what I write - and I'd like to be able to get that joy back if possible. But the only thing I can think to do is take a break. Hopefully, by stepping back and writing other things, I will eventually rediscover my enjoyment of writing fanfic.

I just hope my will-power holds out, as I have very weak will-power :P.

Anyway, except for my Big Bang story, another promised story for a zine, and another story I'm currently posting to FF.net (no, it's not a new story, just an older one I felt like posting there) I plan on not posting fanfic for a while (basically, however long I can hold out). Maybe a month, maybe several months - we shall see.

And I apologize for the pity-party. It's not like I needed to announce my plans for taking a break, but I think it helps to state it in a way that makes it more real rather than just a prospect I can dismiss or forget - kind of like writing up a contract and signing it. I still want to write fanfic, and plan to, it's just for now I need to set it aside long enough that when I do get back to it, I'll enjoy it more.

Aw, jeez. I'm sorry to hear that. :( I hope you find your way back to having fun with fan fic. It should be all — or at least *largely* — play. And when it's not, when you're unhappy and hating it, it's probably good to step away. But I hope you come back. Your writing is amazing and I meep with joy every time I see you've posted a new fic.

I look forward to seeing your Big Bang story. And I hope you're able to find fun in fan fic again.

I do want to come back. I have a ton of ideas I'd like to write, I'm just not in the right frame of mind to tackle them at the moment. Hopefully taking a breather will help remedy that.

Sweetheart, you know that I adore your fics. I was just talking to another reader, who was crying on my shoulder and vice versa, about the prevalence of McShep fics and slash that it's getting harder to navigate the waters of fiction.

You have my understanding and support in your decision, even though it leaves me with great sadness. Every time I began to read one of your fics, I KNEW what I was getting, a wonderful well written fic full of crisp dialogue and action, adventure laced throughout with whump. I always knew Chica that I wouldn't get any nasty surprises. Like frelling McShep...

It's good to take a break. You need to have that joy when you write. Find what will give you that joy and play with that for a while. You know we will be here when you write something new. We, your ff fans, are like a red kool-aid stain: tough to get rid of!

Hey, we all have moments where we need sympathy and a cuppa tea. I love reading your fics because they are my type of story. No slah, no porn and a well written story. I'll be here when you resurface.
btw, I only have 6 classes left then time is my own. I'll be glad to see the back of homework (well I'd rather be dooing the sort of homework you might assign me :D)
