I have no love for people who try to use something that has absolutely nothing to do with politics to spark a political debate, but there is something incredibly amusing about comments over a fight scene between Kirk and a humanoid lizard degenerating into an immature political debate in which no one makes any kind of a point, let alone sense.

Bwahaha. Ohyes. Teh internetz r srs bsns. Lest we ever forget... there are always things like this around to remind us. *g*

Gotta love it when a bit of discussion or debate over something pointless and fun turns into this deadly serious issue, and heaven forbid anyone suggest that people might just be taking the silly not-so-well-executed fight scene a leeeetle too seriously. (Man, it's been forever since I've watched that episode. I suddenly have the urge to do so again.)

I know you've played on Dragon Cave off and on, but I don't know if you've ever gone over to the forums? They can be absolutely hilarious - and occasionally scary - for this sort of thing, sometimes. A lighthearted little discussion of "Oh, hey, this might be a useful feature for the site!" devolves into a heated "This is a human rights issue, and how dare you not take seriously my objections to the implications of such a suggestion." Ridiculous.

I ventured into the forums briefly, once, and never again. Someone thought it would be a good idea to have a pro-abortion or pro-life debate. Yeah. It scares me to think what else they might be debating over there. I'm too chicken to find out :P

Yeeeah, the "general discussion" area can be... intense, to say the least. And because I disagree morally with the majority opinion there, I tend to steer clear of debate threads. I mainly stick to the spriting area (I've been working on some site art), which can be intimidating, but is mostly safe once you've established that you know the rules and are not going to freak out if someone offers you critique. :P

The debates that get funny tend to be in the site discussion/suggestion area. For instance, a suggestion to make it easier to see whether you'd be inbreeding dragons, suddenly turns into, "But, but, that would imply that people with any closely related ancestors are worth less! Yes, we must take this suggestion seriously, in all its forms! D:" Heh.

It's so crazy the directions that discussions can go. It's why I don't debate, even though I often want to. Too easy for things to get out of hand, taken out of context, or for your words to be twisted beyond recognition. What's really scary is that there are people who don't even "try" to steer a conversation their way. They just jump in with a topic that has absolutely nothing to do with what's being discussed (case in point, a while back there was a discussion on an author who basically blew up and stomped out of fandom, taking their stories with them. Everyone blamed it on the author going through some emotional issues. But one person blamed it on the author being a republican o_O).
