The Completely Gen, Non-Kink Meme?

I've been thinking on and off about doing a challenge meme or comment fic based on all the kink challenges I keep hearing about, but making it entirely gen.

The challenge would be to write completely gen stories for prompts normally used to write pairing stories. For example, John and Rodney get married, or John is a slave and Rodney owns him, or bondage, or cuddling, or whatever. But there can't be any pairings, pre-pairings, or anything sexual. It has to be pure gen.

What do you all think? Does this sound like something you would be interested in participating in (and helping me out with, because I only have a basic idea of the kind of prompts that are used in kink memes)? I don't plan on doing this until after the holiday season and before the gen ficathon... if I remember to. Hope I remember to :S I may need some reminding.

ETA: Opinions? Anyone, anyone? Beuler? *taps screen* Where is everyone?

That's a great idea.

Sadly, I'm not a writer so I can't contribute a story/fill for a prompt but the idea sounds very, very intriguing and interesting. Using kink prompts for writing gen stories should be a real challenge and should produce interesting results.

Cool. I've always found quite a bit of inspiration in prompts normally geared toward writing pairing fic. It does make for a very interesting challenge ;)

Kink is typically associated with something sexual and I looked it up to make sure. Could you elaborate more?

Yes, this.

I wasn't really sure what to call this since, yeah, it's not a kink meme (I was thinking non-kink meme. Maybe I'll change the name to that. Or Kink-free meme?). The prompts will be prompts normally found in kink memes and normally used to generate pairing/porn fic. But for this meme, the challenge is to take a prompt normally found in said kink memes and to write gen. Using my example from the post, how would you write a story with the prompt "John and Rodney (or who ever) get married" or "team cuddling" or "massages" or "Rodney owns John" (or vice versa) and make it completely, utterly gen.

Hope that clears things up. I know what I want the challenge to be but coming up with ahn appropriate title that doesn't scare people off is proving tricky.

Thanks for the link :D I will take this idea into consideration, though at the moment I seem to be leaning toward comment fic. I want it to be something easy, something people can do at their leisure with no due dates or "must be done!" obligations, since there's a good chance that what with all the writing stuff going on now people are going to be skirting the edge of being burned out by holiday's end.

That story by Rhymer 'Born on the Barrens' was a sort of Sheppard and
McKay slave/owner, but without the pairing. I found that very interesting.

I'm into short fic challenges. I did have a hard time understanding what you were proposing, but I think it is clearer now. I looked at the other meme topics. I could see how some kink topics could make for fun gen stories, tattoos and piercings could be anything from participation in an alien cultural thing or a night of Ruus wine and bad judgment after a mission gone horribly wrong. Other topics, I just couldn't see any possible non-kink story. But a selected list of topics not usually in the gen genre could make for an interesting challenge and some new stories.

I probably won't use every kink prompt out there, just as many as possible. It'll be interesting to see what people come up with :D

this sounds like an interesting challenge and I haven't seen it done before. I would be in, assuming I was able to write at all (I won't use the word "blocked" but lets just say nothing has been textually renndered of late) But yes, I'd like to give it a try.

*Taps fingers together* Excellent. Prompts usually do well poking stubborn motivation. "Bondage" and "slave" actually gave me an idea the other day, and I'm trying to save it for the challenge.

What a great idea! If the Andorians are reading LJ fic, they surely have the impression that all we humans ever do is--um, well, yes. It's part of life, and it's wonderful, but, friends, it is only PART of life. Further, kinkiness in word, thought, or deed is not requisite to sophistication.

Count me in on your project if it's after New Year's.
