Stupid vacuum destroyed one of my cassette tapes! At some point the stupid tape fell on the floor and slid beneath the dresser and I didn't know until the stupid vacuum started eating it. Luckily it wasn't a tape I listened to a lot, but it had a song on there I loved to bits, but the kind of song I won't be able to find again because I don't know the name and it had no words to it. It was really pretty and relaxing and... now it's gone!

That's it. I'm investing in downloading songs and burning them to CD. Can anyone recommend me a good site for downloading music? Download legally, of course.

Now that that song is gone, I'll probably be plagued by the overwhelming desire to listen to it *headdesk*

OH MY WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What kind of vacuum do you have that will suck in a cassette????
Must be something else...............................

It sucked up the tape part of the cassette, got it tangled in some hair then snapped the tape part. I am so ticked. I had no idea the tape had fallen under the dresser until...

And I'm always worried about something happening to my tapes. A lot of them have songs that, if I lost, I would never be able to find them again :S

Oh sorry, misread, but does not matter............since it is now
gone.
I had a tape deck do that. It was so annoying. It had been recorded particularly for me and now I cannot even get the music, so understand fully where you are coming from in this mess....................
BTW my VCR did it too but thankfully it was not a rental or from library.
Both machines are gone now..............

The biggest inventory of songs can be found through iTunes or Amazon (prices about equal). I tend to use iTunes because I have an iPod, but you should know that you can only play songs purchased from iTunes on iTunes (i.e. you can't play a song you bought from iTunes in Windows Media Player but you can play a song bought from Amazon on either WMP or iTunes). However, downloading iTunes is free.

I've only downloaded about 10 songs, so far, from Amazon. It's pretty simple to do. And I feel your pain; I have LOTS of tapes and have no idea the names of songs or artists. do you still have the remains of the tape? There might be a way to do something with it.

The tape is in the trash but I can dig it out easy. It's pretty trashed, but if there is a way to save that song I'm all ears.

well, if there's a way you can get the tape to me, my brother might be able to do something with it. at least perhaps listen to it, garbled and maybe place the song?

I'm an iTunes girl. I have an iPod, but if you don't, you can always play them on your computer. As another poster said, iTunes is free. The songs have tiered pricing, but there is little you can't find on there. And if you have CDs, you can add them to your iTunes, categorize them ('80s, Christmas, country, anything you can think of) and then play them by playlist.
